Genealogy
of the Gagnon Family.
While this family was forgotten in Tourouvre, Perche, France, it took their
roots in Quebec, America. It started with the immigration of Marguerite
Gagnon wife of Eloi Tavernier.
This couple came in Quebec before 1640, soon after, her mother and three
of her brothers came to joined her. Altogether Mathurin, Jean and Pierre
has established on the Beaupre coast between Chateau Richer and Ste-Anne
de Beaupre, Quebec.
During winter time the three men would preferred Quebec City for trading
purposes and worked on their farm in summer time. Always together on august
14, 1651
They build a house Place de la basse ville in Quebec. On October 6, 1658,
they purchase a general store. While working on the farm and looking after
the store
The three men have started a family.
On July, 19, 1640, Jean married Marguerite Cochon in Quebec City, she was
from Dieppe, Normandie, France. This was the first marriage of the three
brothers.
This couple gave birth to 10 childs.
On February, 14, 1642, Pierre married Vincente Devarieux, she was 18 years
old from Normandie, France. They also had 10 childs.
Maturin was the oldest, he got married in 1647, he was 41 year old, his
wife Francoise Goudreau was only 13 years old. Mathurin was 71 years old
When their fifteen child's was born in 1677. Mathurin died in April, 1690,
in Chateau Richer, Qc. Twenty years after Jean and nine years before Pierre.
Robert Gagnon was the cousin of the above brothers, He was from La Ventrouze,
Perche, France. He married Marie Parenteau on October, 3, 1657.
They had 10 Childs.
After the four of them had died , 85 of their descendants were living in
the Laprairie, Chateau Richer, Yamachiche and Riviere-Ouelle county.
